FULL CIRCLE SCIENCE

PreK - 8th Grade Science Curriculum
About Full Circle Science
WHY
Children and teachers deserve to learn and be challenged in ways that reveal, enhance, and share their skills with others. To love science, children need to experience its deep relevance to their lives, not learn disconnected facts or simply meet standards.  Teachers and children deserve to understand the beauty and interconnectedness of the world we share, and they deserve a curriculum with an iterative, vigorous, and coherent structure that makes visible that interconnectedness. Teachers deserve more support not only with meeting standards, but also with background information, interdisciplinary applications, differentiated lesson plans, and the freedom to optimize their own teaching style and strengths. Teachers and children deserve a science curriculum that promotes authenticity and mindfulness, as well as contextualizes their relationships to family, class, school, community and society.

WHAT
Full Circle Science provides coherent, interconnected, multidisciplinary lessons that every child, no matter their learning style or academic level, can enjoy; and lessons which every teacher, whether a dedicated science instructor or general education teacher, can look forward to teaching.

This curriculum is iterative, meaning that topics are repeated from year to year, building deep understanding across the realms of scientific inquiry.  Each year students start with the self as an individual and end with the self as a member of the global community.  Teachers can select activities that meet the needs of individual children, multiple grades, their school, district, state and also the national standards--without sacrificing coherence and continuity.  The curriculum is iterative so once a teacher and student understand the basic structure of science then they'll be able to navigate through any topic, understanding the interconnectedness of science and the world we inhabit.  The ultimate goal of the curriculum is to build self-confident, authentic, mindful individuals with healthy lifelong habits and a sustainable approach to life in society.

WHEN
Full circle science evolved over a period of five years while Jen Seron was teaching various levels of science to PreK through high school students in New York City.

HOW
Jen Seron developed Full Circle Science lesson-by-lesson over five years in response to specific student interests and the obvious need for a cohesive, iterative, comprehensive, interdisciplinary science curriculum which would not only meet state and national standards but also excite children and teachers, connect one lesson to the next, from topic to topic, and among Life, Earth and Space, Physical and Chemical Sciences, meet the developmental and academic needs of a variety of learners with wildly different learning-styles, and be relevant to individuals in the context of their own lives, family, classes, schools, communities, and society.  The goal of each lesson is to inspire students to optimize their skills and enjoy doing science.

WHO
Jen Seron and Dr. Octavia Davis collaborated to develop Full Circle Science into an interdisciplinary science curriculum useful to other teachers.  Dr. Octavia Davis' talent for hands-on English lessons complements Jen Seron’s talent for hands-on science.  The addition of activities that meet English Language standards allows Full Circle Science to be used to meet not only state and national science standards, but also English standards at the same time.  Please see the About Us page for more information or the Contact Us page to email us directly.
